Potatoes

Have you ever tried a vegetable called a potato?  Most of you have probably had mashed potatoes, french fries, baked potatoes, russet potatoes, or sweet potato.  Those are all many potato types or products from the potato.  Now let's look at our subject of this newspaper: THE GREAT POTATO!

Most of you think that potatoes are just brown ingredients with white insides that taste good.  That's not all.  Potatoes were originated in southern Peru and northwestern Bolivia.  They are vegetables that grow under the ground (like carrots and turnips) and are the fourth largest food crops (after corn, wheat, and rice).  There are many kinds of potatoes, like:
Unfortunately, some potatoes grow poisonous sprouts when fully grown, but we all know what to eat. "RIGHT?"  OK, good.  Also, in 2013 the top 5 potato producers (in 1 million metric tons) are:
In the United States, the potato is one of the most used crops for eating purposes.  If you eat fries, potato chips, hash browns, mashed potatoes baked potatoes, or potato salad, you are consuming the potatoes used in the recipe.  It's not bad you're eating potatoes, because they're so delicious.
