Have
you ever tried a vegetable called a potato? Most of you have
probably had mashed potatoes, french fries, baked potatoes, russet
potatoes, or sweet
potato. Those are all many potato types or products from the
potato. Now let's look at our subject of this newspaper: THE
GREAT POTATO!
Most of you think that potatoes are just brown ingredients with white
insides that taste good. That's not all. Potatoes were
originated in southern Peru and northwestern Bolivia. They are
vegetables that grow under the ground (like carrots and turnips) and
are the fourth largest food crops (after corn, wheat, and rice).
There are many kinds of potatoes, like:
- Russet
- Sweet
- White
- Blue
- Bamberg
Unfortunately, some potatoes grow poisonous sprouts when fully grown,
but we all know what to eat.
"RIGHT?"
OK, good. Also, in 2013 the top 5 potato producers (in 1
million metric tons) are:
- China - 88.9
- India - 45.3
- Russia - 30.2
- Ukraine - 22.3
- United States - 19.8
In the United States, the potato is one of the most used crops for
eating purposes. If you eat fries, potato chips, hash browns,
mashed potatoes baked potatoes, or potato salad, you are consuming the
potatoes used in the recipe. It's not bad you're eating potatoes,
because they're so delicious.
I even made an amateur video of a potato:
Thanks for reading my newspaper of the potato :)
