Mesopotamia is also known as "The Land Between the Two rivers."(Tigris and Euphrates)Mesopotamia was also part of the larger region called the Fertile Crescent, this fertile land is in the shape of a large curve from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean Sea.The Fertile Crescent is where the world's first farming Communities started.
Many people believed that people called sumerians had migrated to mesopotamia thousands of years ago. When the land they settled in they had called it Sumer,Mesopotamia had gave them good fertile soil to use for farming, fertile soil is also known as silt down from the mountains. When the river had flooded their banks, the river water had silt that would spread across the plains, but when the flood water would stop it would leave a fresh layer of rich soil. The sumerians also had challenges when farming like how most of their region was a desert,so with no rain for many months the plants would wither and die. Also, with heavy floods the villages would be swept away with the flooding water.
Sumerians also had invented some inventions such as the potters wheel, wheel, and the sail. The potters wheel allowed the sumerians to shape pots and jars by shaping clay with their hands. The sail helped them carry their surplus of food they had and their grains the wheel helped bring home their and wool over very long distances like over sea.The wheel helped them bring home their trades such as:lumber, metal, grains, and precious stones. The sumerians had also written the worlds first math books.(In their Language)
There is something called social classes:upper, middle, and lower.A social class are groups of people that occupy different ranks or levels. The upper class is made up of the rulers and priests. The middle class is when your aren't in the upper class and your not the lowest ,but your in the middle. The middle class is the farmers, merchants, and skilled workers. The lowest class is the slaves that have to work their buts off all day long.
