The ancient Egyptians lived and farmed along the Nile, using the soil to produce food for themselves and their animals. At the end of nile river it drops silt, or soil. Also at the end of the nile river was a delta that was a kingdom called Lower Egypt. The Nile basin is very large. It includes areas in Tanzania, Congo, Burundi, and Rwanda.Around 40 million people (half of Egypt's population) live in the Nile Delta region. One of the most well know river Nile facts is the rivers ability to produce extremely fertile soil. The Nile river waterway provided a source of drinking water , and source of irrigation for farming as well as papyrus. There are several major cities that are near the nile river and theses are Cairo,Therbes,Gondokoro,Aswan, and Karnak. Many parts of the Nile banks are teeming with crocodiles. They are the largest crocodiles in Africa. The river serves as a major source of transportation. This is especially true during the flood season when road transportation in many areas along the river is impossible.
Major dams built on the Nile include the Aswan High Dam, Roseires Dam, Owen Falls Dam, and Sennar Dam.Before stopped by dams the Nile would overflow every year leaving deposits of rich soil along the banks. The Nile flows into the Mediterranean Sea. There was a nile god name Hapi. Hapi was important because when it floods it leaves some good resources. Why did nile always flood, It would always flood because of heavy rain, and Melting sun. There are two main rivers that flows next to the Nile river and they are White Nile and Blue Nile. The Nile dose not flood now because there was a construction of the Aswan Dam in the 1960's meant that from 1970 the annual flood was controlled. The Nile Delta is irrigated by the Nile and its many distributaries and has some of the richest farm land in the world. It is home to some 45 million people, over half of Egypt's population.
