-.- My Research Webpage
In Mrs. Hill's class we have a project that we have to do. My subject is the pharaoh Tutankhamun. This webpage will have info about him and his short life. Learn at your own risk, again. ^.^
Tutankhamun's dad was Akhenaten. Akhenaten made everyone worship only one god and that god was Aten. In 1341 B.C. Tutankhamun was born and his dad gave him the name Tutankhaten which means "living image of Aten". Later his dad died and left the throne to him Tutankhamun. When Tutankhamun took the throne he changed his name to Tutankhamun which means "living image of Amun". Tutankhamun was to young to take the throne so he had help from one of the top generals in his army. Once Tutankhamun was old enough he took over and made everyone worship many gods once again.
Tutankhamun married very young. He married his half-sister Ankhesenamun. Ankhesenamun was the daughter of Nefertiti and Ikhanaton. Since King Tut and Akhesenamun didn't have any children, there was no one to take the throne once King Tut died. Akhesenamun remarried and disappeared from history and the throne was given to someone else.
Tutankhamun died in 1323 B.C. Scientist and historians believe that Tutankhamun had malaria, a bone disorder, and gangrene. He might have gotten gangrene from an infected wound. He might have fallen of a chariot and broke his leg. Then his broken bone pierced threw his skin nd that wound got infected. Gangrene is when you start rotting from the inside.
King Tut was put in a smaller tomb because he
wasn't very big pharaoh at the time. Tutankhamun's tomb entrance was
covered by debris from another pharaoh's tomb. King Tut's tomb was
thought of as lost for a very long time because there was no history of
where the tomb was located, but Howard Carter found it at last. Carter
had help from Lord Carnarvon and Carnarvon's son George Edward Stanhope
Molyneux Herbert. Howard looked for many years and Carnarvon got tired
of looking. Carter made Carnarvon give him another chance. Carter went
to the Valley of The Kings and searched. One of the workers found a
step in the ground. Howard and Carnarvon dug up the rest of the steps
to Tutankhamun's tomb. Carter Found the entrance to the tomb on
November 5th, 1922. On this day Carter said a very famous sentence.
Carnarvon asked Howard, "What do you see?" and Howard said "Wonderful
things". Many were happy but many were frightened. They thought that
they had let out a curse on all the people that disturbed the king.
Inside of Tutankhamun's tomb there were many
treasures of his. Some of those treasures were his death mask, a
tabernacle, a gold throne, a funeral bed, and his crook and flail.
