8th Grade Theatre

STANDARD 1.3 Analyze the use of figurative language and imagery in dramatic texts.
As you know here in RCMS there are many language arts teacher and of course a drama teacher.Even though we don't like acting or writing,I did this standard because you can really get creative with figures of speech to make a dramatization.Anyways as you can see above this webpage is about standard 1.3 which has to do with the theatre.

Im pretty sure not everybody in our class are good actors...but then again maybe some are!

The cool thing about creating plays is that you can get really creative

Here are some things you need to know before you create a play...

Figurative language- when you use figures of speech to explain something or tell someone.

Metaphor- a comparison of two different things.

For example: Your ears are bigger than Texas.

Simile- a comparison using like or as.

For example: That beard is as curly as a pigs tail.

Personification: Giving human like qualities to things.

For example:The dog said hi to me with his bark.

Hyperbole- an exageration
For example:You eat like a pig!

Now heres an example of a story that has the figures of speech that I mentioned above...
There once was a horse who cried every day and every night. He was sad because he was to big to get outside from his castle. The door was too small. He was larger than Mount Everest.(Metaphor)

Not only that but 5 ponies that lived across the street would laugh at him because he was so big and they were small.Their laugh scared the horse because it was as scary as a hyenas laugh.(simile)

The horse decided to do something about his situation. He made a fitness plan and schedule to make himself slimmer. He figured that if he exercised he would be able to fit through the doors and be free.(personification)
The horse got so skinny he was a stick. He know considered himself very handsome.(hyperbole)

Making dramatic texts is not so hard all you need is
  1. Creativity
  2. a little smartness
  3. and a sense of humor

A dramatic text doesn't have to be long. As long as it has some figurative language and some humor.Youve got yourself a story.
