Have you ever been bullied before? Well, I know
what's it's like. This article is about bullying. In this article, I'm
going to talk about how bullies hurt others, how you can avoid them,
and I will be interviewing people about how they feel about this topic.
What are bullies exactly? Bullies are people who:
- hurt people because it makes them feel powerful
-
hurt others because they’re insecure about themselves
- have their own personal problems and take their frustration out on others
- pick on those who are different
- think that they are better than other people
-
hurt people emotionally, physically, and mentally
-
bully people on the internet (also known as cyber-bullying)
-
start rumors
-
exclude others
- make others feel bad about themselves
- may have weak self-control (Prevent Your Child From Bullying by Allan L. Beane)
Verbal,
physical, emotional, and relational. What do
these words have in common? These words describe different types of
bullying. According to Cindy Miller and Cynthia Lowen, all of these types of bullying hurt people in their own ways.
Verbal bullying is hurting people with words, such as constantly
calling others names and threatening. This happens in real life, on the
internet, and in texts. Physical bullying is harming a person by
physically hurting them, getting into fights, stealing, and damaging
someone’s property. Emotional bullying is a type of bullying that
involves making someone feel bad about themselves. Emotional bullying
includes name-calling, making rude gestures, and saying negative
comments in real life, on the internet, and in texts. Finally, there is
relational bullying. Relational bullying is closely related to
emotional bullying. Relational bullying is associated with one's peers.
Bullies may hurt people who are afraid of being rejected by their
peers. It can recognized as excluding someone from a certain group,
spreading rumors about someone, and even turning their friends against
them. These types of bullying can affect people in different ways.
There are some avoiding tactics that you can do to avoid bullies. Here are some examples:
- Staying away from bullies will save you the trouble of confronting them.
- Don't draw attention to yourself.(www.wikihow.com/Avoid-Bullies)
- Don't bully back because it will get you and possibly the bully in trouble.(http://kidshealth.org and http://apa.org)
- Try to ignore the mean things they do or say. It will show them that you aren't listening to what they are saying.
- Don't
let the bully (or bullies) know that you are afraid of them. It will
encourage the harasser(s) to continue their constant teasing.
Bullying is a serious topic. To show how bullying can affect people, I’ve interviewed
some people.:

Bullying is the biggest concern for children, and parents as they grow
up. Also, as many as 70% of all young people have
experienced some form of bullying.(beatbullying.org) So, I would like to add that if you
see someone being
bullied, try to stand up. You can go to a nearby adult or teacher and
inform them of the situation. Thank you for reading my article.
